Spring is here and that means more than paying taxes, April showers, May flowers and spring cleaning! We have a house to auction, awards to celebrate and students to graduate not to mention all our regular activities…

Construction Technology will complete their school project and put it up for auction next month. Did you know the Construction students build a house as their project? Located at the east end of our campus, the house is nearly finished. Drafting students designed the floor plan, Construction students build it, Air Conditioning students worked on HVAC and plumbing and someone in the area will buy it and get to call it home! It will be sold to the highest bidder on May 20. If you or someone you know might be interested, call to schedule a tour or request more information.

‘Tis the season for statewide competitions. Our students have been traveling across the state to participate in their student organization competitive events and the results are impressive. The four Career Tech Student Organizations (CTSO’s) are: Business Professionals of America (BPA), Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA), SkillsUSA, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). These contests give students a chance to test their skills against their peers statewide, network with other students and possibly qualify for the national contests.

Do you have job vacancies you need to fill? Call Bea Paul, Autry’s Job Developer. She can help connect you to a well-trained, enthusiastic student who might be just the right fit. And remember the Job Fair coming up May 22. Sign up now to reserve your booth space.

Autry students are joining the workforce this spring through the Supervised Work Experience program. Thanks to our partners for helping show these students their businesses. If you are interested in participating in this program next year, contact Jeremy Eaton, Director of Student Activities. Some of the participating business include: Elliott Law Firm, Stevens Ford, Sanders Sporting Goods, Enid Super Lube, DeShazo & DeShazo (Garber), Cummins Construction, Central National Bank, Dr. Tefft DDS, Dr. Morehart DDS, Dr. Bowman DDS, and Dr. Scott DDS

Dr. Marcie Mack, Assistant Superintendent, was selected by The Journal Record as an Oklahoma Achiever under 40 and will be honored at an awards ceremony in May. Congratulations!

Did you know that many workers comp policies require monthly safety meetings? If yours does (or even if it doesn’t!), Autry can help provide a variety of safety training topics for your employees. Call today and let us tell you about our many excellent training options.

Wanted: Instructors for Welding and Air Conditioning… Due to retirements and relocations, we are looking for two instructors this year. If you know someone who might be interested in teaching at Autry, please call Dr. Marcie Mack.

May 9 is the Ribbon Cutting for The James W. Strate Center for Business Development. Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins will be here as we officially open for business! We hope you’ll be able to join us for tours, celebrating and lunch. Festivities begin at 11 am. RSVP to JoLynn Dowers at jdowers@autrytech.com or 242-2750.

Autry’s Mechatronics Training Center is up and running! This training lab offers individuals and companies the opportunity to receive training in electricity and electronics, hydraulics, industrial sensors, PLC, motor controls and more. We continue to develop new curriculum and can focus the training for individuals or customize for specific company needs. Contact Daren Slater for details or enrollment.

Congratulations to Barbara Leathers, Business and Information Technology instructor, for her recent recognition as one who succeeds in a non-traditional career path. She received the Breaking Traditions Award from the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education for her outstanding work in traditionally male field.
