Autry Technology Center

From the desk of Jim Strate, Superintendent of Autry Technology Center

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Happy New Year… we know 2008 will be a productive and successful year for you, Autry and our community. So many exciting things are happening and we are always here to help however we can.

The Center for Business Development construction is moving quickly. We will be ready for clients by early summer, at the latest. If you know anyone interested in learning more about the “incubation” program, please have them call Dr. Ron Duggins (242-2750 x 174), our coordinator for the Center.

If you are interested in seeing the building up close, and even take a tour, come by for our Open House on Sunday, February 3. We’ll be hosting a community Open House for all our programs, classes and facilities and I personally invite you to bring your family and join in the fun.

If you resolved to get your small business in even better shape for 2008, contact Dale Shaffer, Autry’s Small Business Management Coordinator. Dale can meet with you to help your business get started, increase efficiency or expand. Clients rave about the training and consulting available!

Future Educators AssociationSM is here. Autry will sponsor a local chapter of this Association to help encourage students to consider teaching as a career. FEA is an international program for middle and high school students interested in exploring careers in education. The organization is similar to the Future Teachers of America, an activity that existed prior to 1969. The administrative office of the FEA program is located at Phi Delta Kappa International, the professional education association. Contact Jeremy Eaton for more information.

Thanks to Gerald Blevins of Jumbo Foods for the time he served on the Autry board. Gerald recently resigned his position. We appreciate his time, effort and dedication to our organization.

Welcome to Martie Oyler who was appointed to replace Gerald as the board member from Zone 3. Martie is the Manager of Economic Development/ Community Relations for Oklahoma Natural Gas. She and her husband, Troy Enmeier, have three children. Thanks, Martie for serving our community.

What better way to start the New Year than safely? Autry offers a wide range of CPR, first aid, industrial and office safety classes. For details contact our safety coordinators in the Business and Industry Services Department.

The Autry Educational Foundation helps students who need a little extra financial assistance. From tuition, to books and supplies, to funds to help cover other emergency situations, the Foundation is here to help students complete their training and education. If you know someone who would benefit or you are interested in making a contribution, please contact Molly Helm at 242-2750.

Applications for next year’s class of the prestigious Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics will be available in early February and are due back by late March. They will be available at the front desk, by mail (call and request one), at area high school counselors’ offices or on the web in pdf format. Please encourage students you know to apply for this opportunity.

The number of government contracts seems to be increasing… and there may be something that would fit your company. Contact Terry Henneke to learn more about bid assistance.

Thanks to this year’s class of Leadership Greater Enid for coming to Autry recently for lunch and a tour. We appreciate that you are taking the time to learn about all aspects of our city and were pleased to show you around. If anyone is interested in a tour, please call us. We are always happy to show people around our facility.

Mechatronics—formerly Electronics—is the program that teaches all types of industrial maintenance. The new flooring is completed and it compliments the new FESTO equipment. Not only is the program available for long-term career training, but companies may schedule shorter-term block training to meet specific needs. Please let us know if you are interested in more details.

Have you been to our website lately? It’s had a facelift and is more user-friendly than ever. Check out www.autrytech.com and tell us what you think.

Again, please mark your calendars for Sunday, February 3 from 2-4 pm. Our Open House is a great way to spend the afternoon before the Super Bowl showdown. Hope to see you all at Autry!

Please share our news and opportunities with friends, family and employees. We appreciate you helping us communicate what’s happening at Autry Technology Center.

Strate Talk from Autry Technology Center is a monthly update for our friends. Come visit Autry Technology Center anytime. We would love to tell you more about our programs or give you a tour of our facility.
